I don’t know if today has an official name but Web Blackout Day sounds appropriate. So does Black Wednesday. English Wikipedia and a number of other major sites are not available or restricted to protest pending US copyright laws. SOPA and PIPA.
I have made an effort to understand some of the issues of these laws. I am a writer. I have worked in the film industry. I understand the basics of copyright. No democracy, even the deeply flawed ones currently in Canada and the United States should devolve power to the business sector to harass others including their competition and do so without due process in the courts. Furthermore I cannot vote for a US politician. Therefore any law made in the United States that attempts to directly control my daily life in Canada is sinister and wrong.
